A 1-0 win over last season’s treble winners on Wednesday night was followed by another tricky game against league leaders Arsenal on Saturday evening. The doubleheader saw Unai Emery’s men host last season’s first and second place.
Having overcome Man City, Villa turned heads with the same scoreline over Arsenal. John McGinn’s seventh-minute strike was enough to see the team take six points from six.
The results keep the team firmly in the top four places in the Premier League and moves them to within two points of current leaders Liverpool. After the match, Emiliano Martinez was asked if the players think they are now in a title race, he responded with: “I’m a believer, mate.”

Villa are back in action on Thursday evening when they travel to take on Zrinjski in the Europa Conference League. A win would secure their place at the top of the group E.
But concentration following the win over Arsenal was on celebrating a memorable week, in which the side secured a club record 15 straigh wins at Villa Park. After the match the players took to social media to give their reaction, here’s what they said.
