Urgent recall issued for children's socks sold at Dealz due to risk of injury

A product recall has been issued on pairs of socks sold at a major retailer around the country.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has issued a product recall for the items sold at discount chain Dealz.

According to the CCPC, there are 289 such affected items in the Republic of Ireland.

In its official recall warning on its website, the CCPC describes the danger posed by the socks in question.

"The risk presented by the product is injuries. The inside toe area of the sock is made with an uncut loop which can lead to tightness in the toe area for children resulting in ischemia or lacerations."

Ischemia is a condition in which blood flow (and oxygen) is restricted or reduced in a part of the body.

The sock brand is Pep & Co and the affected pairs are designed for use by babies aged 0-24 months. The barcodes are 5045736201708, 5045736201715, 5045736201722 and 5045736201739. The batch number is unknown.

The CCPC gives the following advice: "Customers should stop using the product immediately, keep it out of the reach of children and return it to any Dealz store for a full refund, no receipt is required.
