Temple edges Portland 55-54 for 7th place at Diamond Head Classic

HONOLULU (AP) — Steve Settle III scored 16 points and Hysier Miller made two free throws with five seconds left to rally Temple to a 55-54 victory over Portland on Sunday in the seventh-place game of the Diamond Head Classic.

Settle hit two 3-pointers and added six rebounds for the Owls (7-6). Jordan Riley totaled 14 points, 12 rebounds and four steals. Sam Hofman had 10 points and six rebounds.

Juan Sebastian Gorosito and Tyler Robertson both scored 16 to pace the Pilots (6-9). Gorosito added six rebounds and six assists before fouling out. Robertson missed a 3-pointer on the final shot of the game. Freshman Tyler Harris pitched in with 14 points and seven rebounds.

The starters for both teams did all the scoring.

Settle had 11 points and Riley scored nine to lead Temple to a 26-24 lead at halftime. Harris had 11 points to keep the Pilots close.

Temple is off until Jan. 4 when the Owls begin American Athletic Conference play at South Florida. Portland returns to action on Jan. 6 at home against Pacific in a West Coast Conference opener.
