Jamie Carragher has hit back at Pep Guardiola after the Manchester City boss questioned the former Liverpool defender and his Sky Sports colleagues ahead of tonight's clash with Aston Villa.

City's run of three draws has allowed Liverpool to climb into second place, while City are six points behind leaders Arsenal in third. Following the 3-3 draw with Tottenham last weekend, Carragher said on Sky Sports: "When you’ve won numerous titles, maybe the stadium is flat, is there a feeling of maybe waiting for the business end of the season?

"If you asked us all, I think we'd still fancy Manchester City for the title. We've seen this before with City, where they go on a run during the second half of the season and win 10 or 12 games on the bounce and go away from other teams. Maybe, this season, Arsenal will be stronger from their experience in those moments and we know Liverpool have been there before."

Carragher's colleagues Gary Neville and Micah Richards also discussed City's recent dip - something Guardiola hit back at. In his press conference on Tuesday, Guardiola replied: "He knows how difficult it is otherwise Gary Neville would’ve won four Premier Leagues in the best period of Manchester United. But he didn’t do it. Maybe, maybe I’m wrong and they are seeing everything that I’m not able to see, but I don’t have that feeling. Jamie Carragher didn’t win one (league title). Micah Richards didn’t win four Premier Leagues in a row. Never, ever."

Carragher later took to social media to hit back at the City boss. He said on X: "I think I’d have probably won one if Liverpool were owned by a nation state, and pushed the rules so far that the PL charged us 115 times! I was actually praising Pep’s team after the game on Sunday."

City are under investigation for 115 breaches of the league's financial rules. A final verdict was recently said to be coming in mid-2025.
