Chelsea predicted team vs Wolves: Nkunku and Jackson decisions made as Gallagher dropped

A look at what Mauricio Pochettino could do in terms of his team selection as Chelsea return to Stamford Bridge for their Premier League game with Wolverhampton Wanderers

by · football.london

Chelsea's away form might be horrible to look at, but it is a completely different story at Stamford Bridge. The Blues have found comfort while playing in SW6 in recent times and they are back there on Sunday afternoon as they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.

Unbeaten at their own ground since the end of October, Chelsea will be looking to continue that against Wolves, who have proven to be a really difficult team to come up against. Fresh off the back of a 4-1 thumping at Anfield a few days ago, it is up to Mauricio Pochettino to try and galvanise his group of players once again and put the misery on Merseyside behind them.

As it was such a torrid performance in Liverpool, Pochettino might well be tempted to make a few alterations to the team that started on Wednesday night. With that said, Bobby Vincent predicts the lineup the Argentine will go with at Stamford Bridge.

GK: Djordje Petrovic

Petrovic might have conceded four at Anfield but the Serbian goalkeeper was one of the only Chelsea players to leave with his head held high. He made some superb saves to stop it being even more embarrassing for the Blues.(Image: Paul Ellis/AFP)

RB: Malo Gusto

Gusto came on for the second-half at Anfield and put in a decent showing in what were some really difficult circumstances. The Frenchman might well come in on the right-hand side of defence against Wolves.(Image: Oli Scarff/AFP)

CB: Axel Disasi

Disasi seems to be one of Pochettino's most trusted defenders. He is reliable in terms of his fitness but Chelsea could really do with him improving in the coming weeks and building some form in the heart of the defence.(Image: Darren Walsh/Chelsea FC)

CB: Thiago Silva

Silva wasn't at his best at Anfield, but nobody for Chelsea was. The Brazilian remains Chelsea's most consistent defender and is surely set to start again with Levi Colwill and Trevoh Chalobah still ruled out of action.(Image: Chloe Knott – Danehouse/Getty Images)

LB: Ben Chilwell

Another one who was not at his best at Anfield. But Chilwell needs a run of games in the side, with Pochettino of course monitoring his fitness closely, in order to increase his performance level to as high as we all know it can be.

CM: Enzo Fernandez

Enzo may start on Sunday with Pochettino perhaps favouring a more attacking lineup. The Argentine, bar the Liverpool game, has shown signs recently of returning to form.(Image: Darren Walsh/Chelsea FC)

CM: Moises Caicedo

Caicedo could be the man to partner Enzo in the middle. The Ecuadorian has been brilliant for Chelsea in recent games but like the rest of the team, he struggled on Merseyside.(Image: Darren Walsh/Chelsea FC)

RW: Cole Palmer

Pochettino has had to field a lot of questions about Palmer and his role in the team in recent days. He was used as the false nine against Liverpool but could return to the right-hand side against Wolves to accommodate others. He remains Chelsea's biggest attacking threat.(Image: Joe Prior/Visionhaus)

CF: Christopher Nkunku

Nkunku may well return to the starting lineup for the first time in 2024. The Frenchman made a goal scoring return to the side after coming on as a substitute against Liverpool and he could play in the No.10 role behind the striker.(Image: Darren Walsh/Chelsea FC via Getty Images)

LW: Raheem Sterling

Not his finest display against his former club at Anfield. But Sterling is probably Chelsea's most dangerous option for the left wing right now - on form, anyway. You feel he is due a goal.(Image: Chelsea FC)

ST: Nicolas Jackson

Jackson only returned to training at Cobham on Friday but he could come straight back into the side. It will be exciting to see the Senegalese striker link up with Nkunku behind him once again, as we saw so often in pre-season.(Image: Visionhaus/Getty Images)
