Dancing on Ice viewers seemed to be distracted minutes into the show as series 16 got underway on Sunday night. Twelve new celebrities are taking to the ice with their professional partners in a bid to impress those at home and in the studio audience.

However, it was those live at the show that seemed to be causing a distraction for some of the millions watching it on ITV1.

Writing on X, formerly known as Twitter, @kellymcc5 wrote: "The audience are already irritating me" while @CoreyEES added: "Does the audience have to whoop and cheer for every arm movement? FFS, already sick of the over the top reactions."

User @Simy_78 agreed adding: "They really need to mute the audience cheering during the performances" while @Boppity_Boo34 added: "Do the crowd have to cheer every lift it’s annoying."

Others also couldn't understand why there were so many people booing the scores on the first show.

@realseanslater wrote: "Why is the audience booing #DancingOnIce while @KayliePaylie said: "I don't know why the audience is booing the judges for giving scores of 5.0 when it's the first episode!"

The new series of Dancing on Ice kicked off on Sunday night with the first six celebrities performing for the judges and those watching at home. Next week, the remaining six stars will take to the ice and the first elimination will take place.

The twelve celebrities taking part are former world champion boxer Ricky Hattbbbon, S Club singer Hannah Spearritt, Emmerdale's Roxy Shahidi, West End star Amber Davies, Olympian Greg Rutherford, actors Ryan Thomas and Claire Sweeney, comedian Lou Sanders, reality star Miles Nazaire, Eastenders actor Ricky Norwood, DJ Adele Roberts and ski jumper Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards.

Returning as judges are Jayne Torvill, Christopher Dean, Ashley Banjo and Oti Mabuse.

Dancing on Ice is on ITV1 on Sunday nights, at 6.30pm.
