'I visited one of Midlands most haunted buildings and a ghost swore at me'

Paranormal experts claim Malvern supernatural activity made some start to feel sick and desperate to flee the spooky spot

Ghost-hunters at a reputedly-haunted convent got more than they bargained for when 'spirits' gave them a spooky X-rated response. A team of paranormal experts were investigating The Nunnery in Malvern when they claimed ghosts swore at them.

TikTok ghosthunter Tony Ferguson said chilling supernatural activity at the creepy Ranelagh Road premises even made some of the group "feel sick" and desperate to flee the room. The haunting claims emerged after they visited the historic Worcestershire site, renowned as one of the country's "most haunted", on Saturday, December 9.

Tony said they gathered to record eerie activity from 7pm, braving the ghostly atmosphere until 2am. He said the ghoul said 'f*** off', adding: "That's the first time of being sworn at by a ghost and was surprised as it's a nunnery".

The Victorian-era Nunnery - 90 minutes from Birmingham city centre via the M5 - dates back to 1879. It is a huge plot where more than 250 nuns were believed to have once lived when it was known as The Community of the Holy Name.

Forced to close in the mid-1980s when numbers dwindled, the abandoned, eerie building remains a remnant of the past where nuns once roamed in wimples. Tony went along to the landmark with fellow paranormal investigators in a bid to find out if long-standing claims of the Nunnery and its substantial grounds being haunted were true.

He filmed the goings-on for his TikTok platform TonyFergusonghosthunter1. Alongside him were Sue Robinson and Tania Louise Baker, from Spooks Paranormal, Adam Clark and Jacqueline Dixon, from Paranormal Path, and Silent Stones Paranormal.

Natalie, the caretaker of The Nunnery, was showing the group around when things started to go bump in the night.

Tony said: "While we were all together in the basement area we all heard a dragging sound above us. Natalie said she had never heard anything like it before.

"We then began our investigation and were shocked to hear, tapping noises, banging doors, disembodied voices telling us to "F**k Off" "Get Out". We even had responses to some of our questions."

Brumwish 2023 - buy a gift for a child in need

BrumWish 2023 is Birmingham Live's festive drive to get thousands of gifts to children and young people across our city - among them the homeless, the vulnerable, kids in care, kids who are poorly or struggling, and kids who have little.

There are THREE simple ways to help.

  1. Buy a new gift from the Brumwish Amazon giftlist. In just a click your donation will be whizzing its way to our volunteers at Edgbaston Stadium.
  2. Donate money to the appeal fund hosted by Birmingham Thrive Together - this will help pay for gifts for kids with specialist needs or specific wishes
  3. Buy a gift and, even better, rope in friends, neighbours and workmates to do the same, then drop off your pressies at special gifting days on Friday 8th December and Saturday 9th December at Edgbaston Stadium, 11am - 3pm. Volunteers will be there to greet you and thank you for your support. Please don't wrap.

Thanks to our partnership with #Toys4Birmingham, every single gift will find a good home in the loving care of a child living in B&Bs or hotels, hostels or refuges, children receiving support from specialist organisations and charities, and families being supported by children's centres and charities around the city.

Making up the Brumwish and Toys4Birmingham gang are Birmingham Thrive Together, Birmingham Playcare Network, Edgbaston Foundation (part of Edgbaston Stadium and Warwickshire County Cricket Club), Birmingham Forward Steps who first dreamed up #Toys4Birmingham and BirminghamLive/Birmingham Mail.

Thank you to Amazon UK and the amazing team at the Sutton Coldfield depot for their support.

The video below shows some of the group's spooky experiences around the Nunnery. Their devices were said to have responded to paranormal activity with bleeps. Tony described it as a "phenomenal site".

"We had responses from several devices that we had around the rooms, when asking questions," added Tony. "We heard footsteps coming up the stairs whilst we were in the upper floors investigating.

"We had investigators starting to feel sick and uncomfortable and wanting to leave the room.

"The Nunnery left us with many things we could not explain. Even Natalie was shocked when she heard the dragging noise across the floor as we were all together. She could not offer an explanation for this."

Despite Tony's claims of supernatural activity, the ghosts haven't put him or his pals off returning to The Nunnery, which holds regular ghost hunts through Haunted Happenings.

"We were all shocked by the paranormal activity," admitted Tony. "But we hope to return in the future to see if we can capture more evidence or try to debunk what we encountered."
