A379 crash: Man rescued after being trapped in car in serious crash

Police are investigating the crash which took place at around 5.50am this morning (February 11)

A man was rescued from his car by firefighters following a crash near Yealmpton this morning (February 11). Emergency services were called to the A379 at around 5.50am.

The crash reportedly involved a small vehicle and resulted in a man getting trapped inside. Fire crews from Greenbank and Modbury rushed to the scene alongside police officers.

The firefighters used hydraulic equipment, small tools and lighting to free the man. Devon and Cornwall Police officers are now investigating the crash.

At the time of writing (8.40am), the A379 remains closed in both directions. According to traffic monitoring site Inrix, the closure is in place between Orchard Hill and the turn off for Holbeton.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "Fire Control mobilised two fire engines following a report of a road traffic collision. Crews extricated one male casualty from the vehicle using hydraulic equipment, small tools and lighting. Crews handed over the scene to Police for further investigation."

Inrix reports: "A379 in both directions closed due to accident between Orchard Hill and the Holbeton turn off."
