Aston Villa hope for Jhon Duran auction as Saudi Pro League transfer claim emerges
The Colombian looked set on a move to West Ham United but Al Hilal are now claimed to have entered the race
by Luke Davies · Birmingham LiveAston Villa striker Jhon Duran’s transfer saga has taken an unexpected turn as he is linked with a new club.
The Colombian has been heavily connected with West Ham United in recent days but new information suggests he could have an option in Saudi Arabia as well as east London.
Reports from Fabrizio Romano suggest Al Hilal could be interested in the 20-year-old after a deal for Barcelona’s Victor Roque fell through. In a post on X, he said: “Understand Victor Roque and his camp have turned down Al Hilal's initial contract proposal after club-to-club approach. Al Hilal have also requested info on other U21 strikers as potential alternatives..including Aston Villa ’s Jhon Duran who wants to join West Ham."

If Duran decides to move to the Saudi Pro League side he would link up with Neymar, Ruben Neves, and Aleksandar Mitrovic. Al Hilal’s interest is still at the enquiry stage with West Ham further advanced in their pursuit of the player.
The forward is currently under investigation by Villa after he made his feelings - about a potential move - clear. He took to Instagram on Friday to make a crossed-arms gesture similar to the ‘Irons’ gesture commonly associated with West Ham - nearly 1,000 people watched the stream.
Villa are said to have valued the player at around £40m which would make them a tidy profit on the £18m they paid for Duran when they signed him from MLS side Chicago Fire in January 2023.
West Ham were thought to have had a £30m plus Lewis Oxford bid rebuffed earlier in the window with a second bid expected after the player agreed to personal terms relating to a five-year contract at the London Stadium.
