A person has died after being hit by a train on a Merseyrail line.
Merseyrail announced that services on the Wirral line were cancelled after the incident on January 1. Emergency services later confirmed they were called to reports of a person on the tracks near Ellesmere Port at around 6.30pm.
Police and paramedics attended but the person was pronounced dead at the scene. British Transport Police said the death is not being treated as suspicious.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to the line near Ellesmere Port at around 6.30pm yesterday (1 January) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
While emergency services were dealing with the incident, a 15 minute shuttle train service was put in place between Rock Ferry and Liverpool. A rail replacement bus service was also in operation, conveying passengers between Rock Ferry, Chester and Ellesmere Port.
People travelling to Hooton were warned replacement buses would stop on Hooton Road due to emergency services remaining at Hooton Station.
