The One Show's Alex Jones' awkward jibe at Rob Brydon as he says 'thanks a lot'

The Welsh star appeared on The One Show to discuss his upcoming 2024 tour but when the topic of Barbie came up, his six-second appearance caused a bit of a light-hearted rift

The One Show presenter Alex Jones was left slightly red-faced on Thursday, December 14, when she cheekily - and lightheartedly - insulted fellow Welshman Rob Brydon on the BBC One show as he discussed his cameo appearance in blockbuster hit Barbie with Margot Robbie earlier in the year.

The Gavin & Stacey star came on the show to discuss his upcoming tour, A Night Of Songs And Laughter, in which he tells stories from his life and upbringing in song - "So, I'll talk about being in school in Porthcawl, in Wales, with Ruth Jones. That's where I met Ruth Jones" - and his new character Fred The Busker in the new animation Tabby McTat. But it was the final conversation with Alex and her co-presenter Roman Kemp that had him not too pleased.

Introducing the segment, Alex said: "Now, this week, Barbie the film has been nominated for a Golden Globe. We [Roman and Alex] went to see it together and I said 'What's Rob Brydon doing there?'."

"That was the general reaction," Rob mused. "Don't look away cause it doesn't last long. Six seconds." And shortly after this, Rob revealed how this particular moment had been described as a "jumpscare". "I ended up in it. One day on it. Six seconds. But it has made a real impact. Although my appearance has been described as a jumpscare."

Confused, Alex asked what that meant, which Rob kindly revealed as: "It means...well, it doesn't sound nice does it? It means people go gah [jumping in shock], what's he doing?" In response, the 46-year-old from Ammanford jibed:" Oh yeah, that's the effect it had on me." Rob replied: "Thank you. Thanks Alex. Thanks a lot."

Chuckling away. Alex brushed this insult under the rug and began closing the segment by saying about tickets for his show.

Earlier in the interview, Rob explained how his blink-and-you-miss-it part made it into the film. Rob revealed how Margot Robbie had been a fan of Gavin & Stacey, in which Rob plays the lovable Uncle Bryn, and Barbie director, Greta Gerwig, had been a fan of him in Human Remains.

He also revealed that, some years before production for Barbie began, he had been asked to film a video message for Margot Robbie's birthday, as a fan of the Welsh sitcom, as Uncle Bryn, in which he said: "Hello Margot, I hear it's your birthday, it's wonderful news and I'll tell you for why, I've enjoyed you in so many films." He added: "And the joke I made was 'and I loved you in that Dances with Wolves of Wall Street'. Not bad is it? Six out of ten." This had the hosts in stitches of laugher.
