Vehicle caught in Vancouver sinkhole

A broken water main caused a sinkhole that consumed a vehicle early Saturday morning in Vancouver.

A sports utility vehicle drove into the sinkhole at West 30th Avenue and Washington Street. The driver and passenger safely exited through the trunk and side door, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

There was no indication whether last week’s winter weather contributed to the water main breaking. A city of Vancouver Public Works crew worked Saturday to repair the break.
