Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham handed points deduction warning after Gary Neville FFP prediction
Financial rules have been heavily discussed in recent weeks following Everton's ten-point deduction for a reported breach.
by Patrick Rowe, Luke Thrower · football.londonFormer Manchester United defender Gary Neville has slammed the Premier League's decision to fine the clubs involved in the formation of the European Super League in the aftermath of Everton's recent points deduction. The Toffees were handed a ten-point penalty last week, which has sunk them into the bottom three.
The Premier League sent the Merseyside outfit to an independent panel in March, with claims of a breach in Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). They were accused of losing more than the allowed £105million over a three-year period, with the commission to judge that charge.
The hearing took place in October, with the eventual figure for losses being roughly £20million over that of the permitted figure. That led to the sanction of ten points taken away from their current total for the season, which Everton claim they were "shocked" by in a club statement.
That decision is now subject to appeal, with the deadline to make that appeal nearing in the next week or so, which will be the final say on the deduction. That has brought about plenty of conversations surrounding whether the severity of the punishment is far too much.
It has led to other discussions on Manchester City, following on from their 115 alleged charges that were brought to light by the Premier League in February - with a lengthy legal process ahead before a decision is made regarding those. Chelsea have also been mentioned, due to previous allegations made against former owners Roman Abramovich - though there are no charges at this point.

In the fallout, Neville is on the side that a deduction may have been too much for Everton, believing that the Premier League made the wrong decision regarding Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and the rest of the European Super League teams. The six teams were given a fine for their involvement in plotting a breakaway league, rather than a points deduction.
Neville said on Sky Sports: "I can see why Everton fans are extremely annoyed. Did that offence warrant the largest sporting sanction that the Premier League have ever handed out? Compared to some of the offences we’ve seen, where the top clubs have been scooting behind each other's backs, trying to work out a way to destroy the ethos of English and European football.
"From my point of view, they feel harshly treated after the six clubs that tried to walk away with the crown jewels got fined £3.5m, we accept it’s a different offence. I can see why they’re annoyed. Is it a start of a new wave of authority from the Premier League?"
It remains to be seen exactly how this incident with Everton will play out and the impact that may have on the Premier League's decision making in the future.
