'£200m on Osimhen' - Mauricio Pochettino and Chelsea get clear response to shock Wolves moment
Chelsea transfer news as the Blues miss chance of the season with furious response
by Tom Coley · football.londonChelsea fans thought they had seen it all. In a year that has left no stone unturned when it comes to embarrassment, blunders and totally forgettable moments, Raheem Sterling may well have taken top spot for this unwanted category.
Heading into the Christmas Eve clash away at Wolves having been a key part of the impressive second half turnaround last week against Sheffield United, Sterling was one of those that Mauricio Pochettino still feels he can rely on. With half an hour on the clock the 28-year-old, the second oldest player in the team, raced through on goal.
Sterling had done well to win the ball back for Chelsea's in the Wolves half, chasing down a seemingly lost cause. He fought well to send himself clear with Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer sprinting alongside. Three Chelsea attackers, Jose Sa to beat and the freedom of Molineux.
Inexplicably, but unfortunately entirely predictably for a club that has fallen so far in such a short space of time, Sterling missed, Chelsea missed and the footballing world will not be forgiving. With a square pass on, both Jackson and Palmer waiting for a simple tap in to give the Blues the lead, Sterling chose to go alone.
His shot was saved by Sa and with the January transfer window just around the corner there was little else that supporters away from the Midlands could think of. Here, football.london has the reaction of those online to Sterling's miss and the unified voices calling for new options up front.
@CFCMod_: There are real human beings out there who don’t think we should spend the release clause on Osimhen immediately.
@CFCPys: Osimhen can’t wait until the summer, we need to get him in January or go and get Toney. Spend £200m on Osimhen

@xGPhilosophy: Raheem Sterling could have turned a chance worth 0.68(xG) into a chance worth roughly 0.95(xG) if he had passed.
@SonOfChelsea: I’d be subbing Sterling at half time, one of the most selfish displays I’ve ever seen.
@Carefree_Jam: I play in the Wessex league and I am a better striker than Nicholas Jackson. Sterling, Jackson and Chelsea are going to transform me into the greatest of villains just before Christmas. I'm now evil and I will speak my mind without thinking
@CarefreeLewisG: I expect this from the younger players. Not you.
@CFCCentral3: That is unfathomably bad from Sterling. Has been bright so far but that is atrocious decision making.
@AlexGoldberg_: Bench the whole attack. Nkunku, Mudryk & Madueke please. Jackson & Broja have just been putrid
@tovers98: Raheem Sterling that is unforgivable. Appalling play.
