Danny Ings scores first Premier League goal in over a year as West Ham draw vs Burnley
Danny Ings scored his first Premier League goal in over a year as West Ham came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Burnley in a thrilling encounter at the London Stadium
by Joshua Smith, Andy Sims, PA · football.londonDanny Ings finally found the back of the net after a year-long dry spell, helping West Ham secure a 2-2 draw against his old team Burnley.
Ings, who used to play for England, had an outstanding performance despite only being brought on in the 82nd minute. He scored a goal that was disallowed, then netted the equaliser and even hit the crossbar during extra time in a wild match.
Burnley, who started the game at the bottom of the Premier League without scoring for a month, were leading by two goals at half-time thanks to a long-distance shot from David Datro Fofana and an own goal by Konstantinos Mavropanos. West Ham, still recovering from a tough 1-0 loss in the Europa League against Freiburg, seemed tired and made mistakes in the first half. But they bounced back in the second half, thanks to Lucas Paqueta and Ings, to earn a point.
They were trailing just 11 minutes into the game when Fofana, on loan from Chelsea, managed to get past Nayef Aguerd and Kalvin Phillips to score a stunning goal from 25 yards out. Phillips might have been a sure pick for the England squad on Thursday if he had stayed with Manchester City this season.
His loan move to West Ham hasn't been great so far. With England's manager Gareth Southgate watching from the stands, it seems like he might not make the squad for this summer's Euros.
West Ham's poor performance in the first half was highlighted when their former player Josh Cullen crossed the ball from the left and Mavropanos managed to score past Alphonse Areola. James Ward-Prowse and Jarrod Bowen are also being watched by Southgate, but neither had a good game.

Bowen missed his only chance and Ward-Prowse, along with Phillips, was taken off at half-time. Edson Alverez and Michail Antonio were brought on instead and within a minute West Ham scored, thanks to Paqueta who took advantage of some sloppy play from Burnley.
Mohammed Kudus should have equalised when he got the ball from Bowen and had a clear shot at goal after Lorenz Assignon decided to go down rather than defend his goal, but luckily for him, Kudus missed. West Ham thought they had equalised when Ings scored but a VAR check showed Antonio was just offside when he passed the ball to Ings.
But in the eight minutes of extra time, due to Burnley wasting time, Ings received a pass from Kudus, turned and scored past Trafford. The player, who was signed from Aston Villa for £12million in January last year, nearly scored the winning goal but his shot bounced off the crossbar.
