'My mother-in-law opened family's Christmas presents while I was out - then wrapped them again so I wouldn't know'
A man was shocked when he realised his beautifully wrapped presents for his family had been opened and rewrapped while he was at work - and knew his mother-in-law was to blame
by Niamh Kirk · The MirrorA man was left raging when he found out his mother-in-law had opened all of the Christmas presents - and then wrapped them all back up again.
It can be tempting to want to take a sneak peek at presents before Christmas, especially if they are on display - and one woman did just that. Much to the dismay of her son-in-law who had perfectly wrapped them ahead of the big day, and none of them were for her. He presumed she had opened them while he was at work, as he noticed they were no longer wrapped pristinely - and knew she was the culprit.
As he had meticulously wrapped his gifts and stacked them neatly in a pile, he knew they had been tampered with by the look of the tape stuck back on messily, and the bows and ribbons out of place. "I had several wrapped presents on the dining room table before leaving work.
"Wrapping paper, bows, and ribbons, signed and addressed to my beloved family members. All were also gift-wrapped at a local shop that uses recycled and vintage materials so they all came home with me ready to go," he detailed in a Reddit post.
"None of these were for her. She specifically asked for nothing for Christmas and also does not celebrate the holiday at all due to religious differences. I respected her wishes and got her nothing. I went to work this weekend, she was presumed to be home alone both days. I woke up at 5am on Monday. Couldn't sleep. Sat at the dining room table with a cup of tea. I admire my lovingly picked out and wrapped gifts for family members," he added.
But it was then that he noticed they had been opened and resealed again. He spotted the bows and curled ribbons were "mangled", as well as the stack "out of order". "The tape has been torn off and hastily put back on, not quite sticking to the vintage wrapping paper where it was placed. The stickers are on the wrong side from where I put them, and obviously, I did not write on their tags upside down. The contents have all shifted. The creases have been re-creased, badly on some places," he further detailed.
As he was so upset that she had opened and rewrapped his gifts, he admitted that he would rather she'd gone through his dirty laundry than go through his gifts that "weren't for her". He then stated that if she had asked what he'd bought, he would have happily told her and said: "If she had asked regarding the contents, I would have told her gladly. I even have saved pictures I showed friends while I was in the shop. I would even have explained why I chose these items. But she did not ask."
He added: "She waited until I was gone and ripped apart my family's presents, and shottily put them back together like I would not notice."
Redditors were quick to chime in with their thoughts, as many slammed her for being disrespectful and insensitive. One user wrote: "Oooh. She'd be out of my house so fast. Get. Out. How dare someone be so rude."
Another added: ""If she's religious enough that she doesn't celebrate holidays, she should've stayed out of your business. This is so terribly disrespectful."
