Premier League predictions and betting tips for the big matches this weekend

Premier League predictions and betting tips for five of the biggest matches this weekend

by · The Mirror

It’s a blockbuster weekend of Premier League action as Manchester City host Ange Postecoglou’s injury-ravaged Tottenham in the late match on Super Sunday.

However, there’s a whole host of big matches before we get to the Etihad, starting with Burnley vs Sheffield United - a meeting of two of the relegation zone occupants at Turf Moor.

The third team currently facing the drop, Everton travel to Nottingham Forest on Saturday evening looking to close the gap on Luton, who face a tricky looking trip to Brentford.

Newcastle vs Man United pits two teams looking to bounce back from European disappointment in midweek. The Red Devils have shown admirable Premier League form of late, but have consistently failed to produce the points against Top 6 opposition under Erik ten Hag.

Meanwhile, goals should be on the agenda as Mauricio Pochettino’s inconsistent Chelsea face Brighton, one of the league’s most entertaining teams under Roberto De Zerbi.

Premier League Predictions for this Weekend

Burnley vs Sheffield United Betting Tips

Vincent Kompany will have earmarked Saturday’s showdown as one in which his side can bank an important three points from. That being said, Sheffield United have lost just one of their last three Premier League matches, picking up four points in the process.

Therefore, Paul Heckingbottom will also feel that this is a fixture in which his team can take points from in their bid to reel in the sides above them.

However, the Blades hold the worst away record in the league this season, picking up just one point from their six road games thus far, so they could well slump to another defeat.

Nottingham Forest vs Everton Betting Tips

Nottingham Forest are yet to put it all together yet this season, with glimpses of brilliance serving to both tease and frustrate fans.

Their transition to a back four has proved a double edged sword so far; increasing both their attacking potency and their defensive leakage, a feat captured in their last two games both finishing in 3-2 defeats.

Their home record, as well as Morgan Gibbs-White’s return to form, can see the Garibaldi Red run out narrow winners in a game where both teams are expected to score.

Newcastle vs Man United Betting Tips

Both teams have been in strong form in the Premier League. United, along with Villa, have accrued 12 points from a possible 15 in the last five gameweeks, while Newcastle have also only lost once in that period, picking up three wins, a draw and 10 points.

Newcastle go into this one as the favourites, a home crowd and a near-miss in doing the double over Mbappe’s moneybags PSG in midweek points to a result in their favour.

They may have serious injury concerns, but Eddie is some-Howe still getting the best out of them after some rollercoaster results in November.

Chelsea vs Brighton Betting Tips

Chelsea have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last six league fixtures. Brighton share this trend, as both teams have scored in all six of the Seagulls' previous league matches.

Both sides also share the pattern that their previous Premier League fixture saw a red card shown to each of them. Brighton currently average 2.68 yellow cards per game in all competitions, with the Blues averaging 2.87.

Tempers appear to rise in both camps throughout the duration of the 90 minutes, and as both butt heads cards should be expected.

Man City vs Tottenham Betting Tips

City come into the game on the back of five unbeaten in the league and a comeback victory over RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

However, they have drawn their last two in the league - including conceding four against Chelsea in another uncharacteristic blockbuster.

So, while Pep will smell blood, Ange will too. City aren’t at their best, and a rested and reinvigorated Tottenham could deliver a surprise blow that would put them level on points with Sunday’s hosts.
