New Premier League club enters Eddie Nketiah race as Nottingham Forest talks break down

Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah is expected to leave the Emirates this summer in search of regular first-team football and Crystal Palace are interested in signing him

Crystal Palace have entered the race to sign Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah, having sold Jordan Ayew to Leicester.

Ayew scored 23 goals during his six seasons at Palace and his departure leaves the Eagles with only Jean-Philippe Mateta and Odsonne Edouard as recognised strikers. As a result, Palace are now considering a move for Nketiah.

The 25-year-old is widely expected to leave Arsenal this summer in search of more regular game time, having not made a single Premier League start for the Gunners since the turn of the year.

When asked about Nketiah's future following Arsenal's 2-0 win over Aston Villa, Mikel Arteta said: "At the moment, Eddie is our player. He's very committed to us. Regardless of the noise, he's here and he wants to be here with us. He's really happy that we won the game."

Nketiah had been in talks over a £30million move to Nottingham Forest, but that broke down after personal terms could not be agreed. Marseille were also interested in the striker, but that deal also collapsed and they have since signed Elye Wahi from Lens instead.

Now, Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Palace have made an approach for Nketiah. It is claimed that the England international is open to joining them and talks are ongoing over personal terms, although several other clubs are also interested.

Along with the departure of Ayew, Palace have also sold Michael Olise to Bayern Munich and Joachim Andersen to Fulham. Chadi Riad, Ismaila Sarr and Daichi Kamada have been brought in to strengthen the squad, but manager Oliver Glasner admits more new faces are needed.

"We have Jes (Rak-Sakyi) and David (Ozoh) on loan, we didn't extend Jairo (Riedewald) and (James) Tomkins and we sold two," Glasner said when quizzed on Palace's transfer business. "We've lost seven and brought in three.

"It doesn't mean we need four more but it's clear we have to get at least two more players into the squad. I expect everyone to be a Crystal Palace player until someone tells me something different. Especially the player, because it's always their decision.

"So yes, I expect him (Marc Guehi), I expect everyone here, because we now have 18 players with (Matheus) Franca injured. We know that if we lose one or two players we also have to replace them, because we need a competitive squad over (the remaining) 37 Premier League games."
