Diogo Dalot praises Sir Jim Ratcliffe influence after Manchester United win vs Wigan in FA Cup

Man United progressed to the next round of the FA Cup with a comfortable 2-0 win against Wigan Athletic.

Diogo Dalot believes Sir Jim Ratcliffe has brought 'good and new energy' to Manchester United since agreeing a deal to invest in the club.

The announcement of Ratcliffe's minority stake came on Christmas Eve and the British billionaire has since visited Old Trafford and Carrington as plans are made.

Ratcliffe and INEOS are gaining control of football operations and Sir Dave Brailsford and Jean-Claude Blanc were at the DW Stadium on Monday night to watch United in the FA Cup. United began their FA Cup campaign with a straightforward 2-0 win over Wigan thanks to goals from Dalot and Bruno Fernandes, and it was disappointing the scoreline wasn't heavier.

Erik ten Hag's side wasted an abundance of opportunities and Dalot, speaking to ITV after the game, admitted that was the only negative aspect of the performance.

"We created a lot of chances, but the difference in the score today was putting the ball in the net a little more with the chances we had," he said. "I think we controlled the game, had some good moments and I'm glad that we won.

"I think it [the early goal] gave comfort to the team, we were looking for the goal, so we could be a little bit more calm, not rushing to score. I think we created a lot and could have scored even more goals. Overall, that's what we missed today."

Dalot was asked about Ratcliffe's influence and added: "He brings some good energy, new energy, hopefully with positive feelings. New things to conquer, looking forward to the future with a good energy and they are bringing that.

"You can feel in Carrington already the motivation they've brought in and hopefully we can win a lot of things together."

Finally, he was bullish about going all the way in the FA Cup this season: "That's why we're here, we're Man United and we want to play every competition, so hopefully we can win it."
