Strictly Come Dancing star Layton Williams has opened up about being in the dance-off at the weekend, admitting 'my best isn't good enough.' The BBC dancing show contestant and his professional partner Nikita Kuzmin found themselves in the bottom two for the first time this series alongside Angela Scanlon and Carlos Gu.

Angela's journey came to an end as the judges chose to save Layton. On Strictly's spin-off show It Takes Two, Layton addressed how he failed to hugely impress judges with his American Smooth at the weekend. He told presenter Fleur East on Tuesday's BBC Two show that he was disappointed.

He said: "I totally get it. It's been 10 weeks and I'm not going to lie, I thought I would be in the bottom two much more than that. I was nervous because the last time I had done this kind of vibe was Movies Week and it didn't go down as well as I would have hoped.

"The proof is in the pudding. It is really hard when you get that kind of critique and you are in the bottom two because you don't want to be disappointed because genuinely. I did do the best I could. My best is just not good enough and that's okay."

Nikita also spoke on the BBC Two spin-off show about his partner's reaction to Angela joining them in the dance-off. He revealed to viewers: "You cannot see them behind the curtains but his (pointing to Layton) especially. His reaction when he saw Angela in the...he was just sad. I said to him babe it is fine, it's okay, it's part of it. It is really sad because Carlos is one of my best friends and Angela is one of his (Layton's) friends."

This weekend, Week 11 Musicals Week, Layton and Nikita will be dancing a Paso to Backstage Romance from the musical Moulin Rouge.
