Pictures capture fall of cross from top of Paisley's Well Street demolished buildings
The cross has been brought down intact and will be used when regeneration of the area is complete.
by Paisley Express, https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/authors/paisley-daily-express/ · Daily RecordThese fantastic images show the removal of an ornate iron cross during the demolition of the tenement block at the corner of Well Street and Underwood Lane in Paisley.
Captured by Paisley photographer David Cameron, it's understood builders worked for two days to bring the complex slate spire down safely with the hope of saving the cross.
David, who was there to watch the work unfold, said: “The cross was suspected of being made of cast iron and it was highly possible it would crash to the ground on removal and break.
"I'm glad to say the guy did a grand job and brought it down safe."
Renfrewshire Council is currently carrying out an emergency removal of the building for “safety reasons”.
It’s understood the ornate cross will later be placed on top of one of the new buildings after the place has been modernised.
