Meet the pets searching for their forever homes as they start 2024 at Halfway Home Dog Rescue

Staff at the centre are dedicated to making sure all animals find a loving home

by · NottinghamshireLive

Every year, the Halfway Home Dog Rescue helps hundreds of dogs find their forever homes. Based in Collingham, near Newark, the centre has a fantastic team to support and look after the dogs whilst they're in the kennels, but they hope to find every animal a permanent loving home.

While some animals may only spend a few weeks at the shelter, it can be a much longer stay for those who need treatments and time to recover from previous incidents. The rescue has recently taken in a mini dachshund called Titch, who had been left at her local vets after her previous owners couldn't afford the vet bills due to her back problem.

On December 6, Titch went for an MRI as her back was still poorly, and causing her to occasionally collapse and drag one of her back legs. The scan found a prolapsed disc, and the centre is currently raising the £5,500 needed for her surgery.

On the Just Giving page, they state: "We understand its a very difficult time for everyone financially at the moment but we need to get this little girl into surgery as soon as possible to help her walk normally again." Titch is currently in a foster home, but like many other dogs at the rescue centre, she is still looking for her forever family.

Here are some of the animals at the centre who will start 2024 still searching for their forever homes. If you are interested in helping any of the dogs below, please call Halfway Home Dog Rescue on 07808003152 or go to their website.

Dani

Dani is a male Jack Russel. It would be best if he is rehomed to a family which already has a dog, as he needs the company. Although it is thought he would be best in a home with no young children.
The centre says: "Dani can be a nervous boy and he will take a while to get used to his new owner and environment, he will need lots of room to run about freely and lots of toys to keep him occupied.
"Once he is used to you he is very affectionate and will lay close to you for comfort. If he can’t sleep with you he will need a crate to feel secure and it would be best if there was a playful playmate for him, he does not like to be the only dog as he is young and needs someone to play with."(Image: Halfway Home Dog Rescue)

Bounty

This lovely friendly dog is Bounty. He is a one-year-old collie type dog.
The centre says: "Bounty is a lovely friendly dog who would be best rehomed where there are no young children under 16 due to his size.
"He is still a youngster and is very friendly and would be receptive to some training. We think he has been abandoned as he gets attached to you and wants to be with you."(Image: Halfway Home Dog Rescue)

Tyler

Tyler is a four-year-old Rottweiler who was born in September 2019. He is a lovely, friendly and calm dog who enjoys spending time with people and having a bit of fuss.
The centre said: "He's been with a female dog on walks on and off lead. He needs help with toilet training but is good in the home at night.
"Having been probably starving at some point he is very food focused so will need to learn boundaries around the home, especially around the kitchen and meal times."(Image: Halfway Home Dog Rescue)

Keerah

Keerah is in need of a new home as she has not been getting on with the younger dog in the household. She is an 11-month-old puppy and a sweet-natured girl originally from Bosnia, and has been with her current owner since she was five months old.
The owner says: "She knows basic commands sit, wait and down. She has been house trained and is learning to walk to heel. Her recall however is very selective and currently she cannot be let off the lead in open spaces.
"She has been living with a 12year old male dog and a 16 month male dog. She is fine with the older dog but has issues with the younger dog especially round food which is causing problems. I therefore i have to walk them separately too."
Adding: "She has been well socialised and likes other dogs and plays with them when walking and visiting. She responds well to male humans. She is not good with cats birds or chickens having a strong hunting instinct so she will need a home with secure fencing and no other animals.
"She has not really had any contact with children other than out on walks so this is an unknown. I believe she will thrive in an only dog household that can give her one to one love and attention which I believe she needs.”(Image: Halfway Home Dog Rescue)

Maddison

Maddison is a beautiful dog who has been rescued from a public shelter. She is seven years old and needs to put a lot of weight on.
She is also a bit wary of some things. She loves human company and walks well on a lead and harness.(Image: Halfway Home Dog Rescue)
