Weather forecasters have predicted a heat blast across the South West today, as part of a nationwide surge in temperatures. The Met Office anticipates that much of England and Wales will see the mercury rise above 30C on Tuesday, with plenty of sunshine making for a warm day for many.

The peak of the heat is expected to be felt in southern England and Wales. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued yellow heat health warnings for all areas of England, barring the north east and north west, which will remain in effect until Friday. The agency has cautioned that the anticipated hot weather could have "significant impacts" on the health and social care sector, particularly in the south east and London, with minor impact elsewhere.

Parts of the South West may even experience heatwave conditions - for much of the South West, temperatures need to hit 25/26C for three consecutive days to qualify as a heatwave. Bristol is predicted to see temperatures above 26C until Friday.

"Temperatures are likely to peak at around 32C in southeast England on Tuesday and Wednesday, with much of the UK experiencing dry, fine and warm conditions in the first half of the week," he said.

Despite the week's blistering heat and sunshine, Devon is set for a potential thunderstorm on Thursday. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning in place from midday until 11.59pm on Thursday (August 1).
