Delhi Police on Sunday arrested three people, including a domestic help, in connection with the murder of a 65-year-old doctor in southeast Delhi's Jangpura area. Police have said a total of seven people were involved in the murder and that they are still searching for four Nepalese citizens involved.

The body of Dr Yogesh Chander Paul, a general physician, was found with his throat slit, hands and feet tied at his home on May 10. Delhi Police's investigation into the murder revealed that Paul was brutally tortured and hit on the head with a blunt object before being strangled with a leash.

Police said that the mastermind behind Paul's murder was his domestic help, Basanti, who had been working at his home for the past 24 years.

HOW WAS THE MURDER EXECUTED

"Basanti contacted her friend Varsha and Vishwaroop Sai, a resident of Haridwar. Vishwaroop Sai also involved three Nepali citizens and Haridwar's priest, Himanshu Joshi and his brother Akash Joshi. On May 5, Himanshu, Akash, and Vishwaroop came to Delhi and conducted a recce at Paul's house, a senior police official said.

Two days later, on May 7, they all stayed at a hotel near Sarai Kale Khan and continuously monitored the doctor's house until May 10.

Around 1.30 am on May 10, five people entered the doctor's house from the back door, CCTV footage showed.

The accused beat up Paul, gagged him and tied him to a chair. They dragged the chair with Paul tied to it to the kitchen where they hit him on the head with a blunt object and strangled him with a dog leash, the officer said. After the murder, they stole around 4 lakh in cash and gold.

Varsha, who used to make video calls, through Basanti, was providing clues to every corner of the doctor's house. Varsha's husband, Bhim, was also with her.

Basanti, Himanshu Joshi, and Akash Joshi have been arrested while the search is still on for the remaining four.
